Dear Families,
I hope you’ve all managed to dig out after our recent snow days. January brought us true New England winter weather, and with the holidays and snow days, the month seemed to fly by. Despite the interruptions, students have been hard at work on their mid-year assessments, and I am pleased with the growth and progress I’ve seen so far. Our teachers continue to provide engaging learning experiences, and our students are showing wonderful determination to learn and grow.
We’re entering basketball playoff season! The boys’ team will compete this Saturday, while the girls’ team is set to play on Saturday, February 7th. Good luck to both teams—we’re proud of your hard work and sportsmanship!
Looking ahead, February promises to be another quick month. We’ll be celebrating the 100th day of school and, of course, Valentine’s Day.
We look forward to another great month and truly appreciate your partnership in supporting your child’s success.
A few updates and reminders are listed below:
New Opportunities:
Highland has been given the opportunity to partner with Friends of Aine Center for Grieving Children and Families to provide a grief support group for students during the school day. The group is aimed to support students who are grieving the loss of a loved one. We are looking to see if we have enough families who would be interested in their child participating for us to be able to offer this at our school. Please reach out to our School Counselor, Alyson Lewis (alewis@mansd.org), if you are interested in learning more about this.
Important Dates:
No School: February 16, 2026
Winter Break: School is closed from February 23–27, 2026
Winter Reminders
Dress for the Weather: Please send students to school with winter-appropriate clothing. Recess will be outdoors unless the temperature is below 20 degrees. Students need boots, snow pants, jackets, hats, and gloves or mittens to play in the snow. Without full snow gear, students will need to stay on the blacktop.
Car Patrol Safety:
Students must remain seated in their cars until dropped off at the designated car patrol locations (back or side of the building). Grade level does not matter—students may be dropped off at either location for a quicker, smoother process.
Do not drop students off on Goffe’s Falls Road or allow them to walk onto school grounds from there.
At the side car patrol area, only let students exit when you’re stopped at one of the five marked cones.
Do not pass stopped cars.
Proceed in a single file line.
Our staff will be present to assist and ensure everyone’s safety. Please drive slowly, follow staff instructions, and help us keep all students safe.
